Note: If the system partition/drive is encrypted and you want to reinstall or upgrade Windows, you need to decrypt it first (select System > Permanently Decrypt System Partition/Drive). However, a running operating system can be updated (security patches, service packs, etc.) without any problems even when the system partition/drive is encrypted.

Sorry, I do not know if it is possible to decrypt the hidden OS. Hopefully someone else that has decrypted their system encryption with hidden OS can answer your questions.

Now I need to understand how to update the hidden system, if possible.
Mounting the Outer Volume in the decoy, I see only garbage files, correctly.
Mounting the Hidden Volume in the decoy, I see hidden stuff, correctly.
Reinstalling the VC bootloader, I can only boot the unencrypted decoy pressing Esc, but if I input the hidden system password it returns "wrong password".
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Wanted to add that have always had to decrypt Truecrypt and Veracrypt before certain Windows updates would work in both Windows 7 and Windows 10. Currently decrpyting right now to update the big Windows 10 Aniversary feature update.
Unfortunetly it just is what it is. Encryption often times isn't convienent at all.
For whats its worth Bitlocker system encryption allows the updates seamlessly, but I don't use it and wouldn't recommend someone else to use it over Truecrypt or Veracrypt.

Dear,
I'm with VC 1.8a.
No way to update decoy or hidden to Anniversary 1607.
Decoy reboots to pre-auth screen, I can only click "Continue to Windows 10" and update fails with "0xC1900101 - 0x20017 The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation".
Hidden doesn't reach reboot, it simply exits reporting it's impossible to update.
Any suggestions?
Thanks and best regards.
Hello,
Since Windows 10 Anniversary is an upgrade verses an update to Windows 10, you will have to decrypt and rebuild the hidden OS.
The is the same behavior in TrueCrypt.

Hi.
How can I decrypt the hidden system?
Should I upgrade first decoy or hidden?
Thanks a lot.

I decrypted and updated the decoy.
