cant begin to describe how annoying this is, will at least describe how i got into this mess
i have a non-system drive i use to store my stuff, lets call it drive E:
i encrypted E: with portable veracrypt and mounted it to partition B:
at this point there were no problems, yet
now, there was a bit of back and forth, i removed portable veracrypt to reinstall it to my C drive but i forgot to dismount B, couldn't access B at all until i rebooted and installed veracrypt to C:\Programs (main drive).
then everything was ok until i started tinkering with Favourite Volumes, changed the label of volume B to E so that it reads E(B:) , i ticked the checkbox "use favorite label as explorer drive label", rebooted, and now i cant launch programs from B anymore because i get an unexisting-path-error every time.
reverting the changes to the favorite volumes didn't help, any idea ?
besides i still see Disk E: in my disk list, is it possible to rename it so that i can finally assign the mounted partition to E: instead of B: ?

If you performed in-place encryption, you need to remove the E drive letter from Windows in order to reuse the E drive letter when mounting with VeraCrypt.
With all VeraCrypt volumes dismounted, use Windows Disk Management to remove the E drive letter from the disk/partition that you encrypted. This will free-up the E drive letter from Windows so you can select E in VeraCrypt.
There is no need to use the Favorites Label since Windows Explorer will see the mounted VeraCrypt volume with the drive letter you have selected except in the case of using A or B as drive letters. Typically, you would use the volume label to call the VeraCrypt mounted volume a specific name like "Finances".
A and B drive letters become invisible in Windows Explorer after closing all Explorer instances although the A and B drives letters are still mounted.
