I'm using the standalone version 1.23-hotfix2 and I'm able to encrypt and decrypt correctly. The problem that I'm experiencing sometimes is that the file veracrypt-x64.sys cannot be removed if I want to clean up my extracted folder. It is still being used according to the OS ( windows 10 ). The only way to solve this is to use a file unlocker and reboot the machine. Can anyone tell what service or process is preventing me from removing that file?

I tried several tools ( fileassassin, lockhunter, unlocker ) but non was able to remove the file. I also tried looking at which process is blocking it ( processexplorer, anvir task manager ) but that didn't help.

Well, if you installed Veracrypt, it could be Veracrypt itself that is locking the tool. Did you uninstall Veracrypt normally? or did you use a program like Revo Uninstaller to get all the leftover files? I'm not sure if it's still an issue, where if you use Revo, that you then can't reinstall the program. If you can just install Veracrypt, that would be best. But if you really really want to delete that file, use Rufus or some other program to write a GNU/linux operating system onto a usb flash drive, boot from that, and use that operating system to remove your file.
