    Hi,
I've had a hard drive fail with my Veracrypt volume on it. I'm most certainly not experienced enough to try recover the drive so i had my friend who is more tech savvy look at it. He has used ddrescue to recover some of the drive. The details of the recovery are below. https://www.reddit.com/r/datarecovery/comments/f9i6uw/recovering_2tb_hdd_with_500gb_veracrypt_partition/

As I was in a difficult situation with limited resources when creating the drive i am without a Veracrypt Rescue Disk. I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge they can share about recovery of data or ways to regain access to my VC volume. I obviously have my pw and have recovered the keyfile but it seems the hard drive partition table the original VC volume was on is corrupted beyond recovery.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I know it seems pretty easy to not create a rescue disk, and I think a lot of people don't have dvd drives, which is necessary for the BIOS version, so people often then choose to not create a rescue disk. That, and then it's not saved as .iso when you choose a different save location, so it gets saved with some nothing file extension. If using the EFI version, it saves as a zip file, which is then easy to write to a usb drive, I think - will the operating system boot from it if you just write the contents of the .zip file there? I know rufus can't open an encrypted file. But yeah, most people, if they don't have a dvd drive and they're using the BIOS version, will just skip making the rescue disk, which is not good. From what I've been reading and experiencing, it's super important.
