Unfortunately the project has pretty much one lead developer who often disappears from the internet :/

    Hello everyone,

First, I owe you all a heartfelt apology for my prolonged silence and the lack of updates regarding VeraCrypt. The recent comments from @aravaara have profoundly reminded me of my responsibility to this community. It's been difficult for me to come forward without feeling compelled to divulge too much about my personal life. However, I now realize that it’s important to provide some context.

For many years, the amount of free time I've been able to dedicate to VeraCrypt has been gradually eroding, and over the past year, this challenge has become more significant. This is largely due to a personal family matter—caring for one of my children who has a disability. This situation demands much of my and my wife’s energy and attention. Deciding to discuss this publicly wasn’t easy, but I believe it's crucial to humanize the often invisible struggles behind open source development.

Additionally, the volume of direct support requests I've received has drastically increased, adding significant psychological pressure. To prevent burnout and manage my current responsibilities, I’ve had to step back more than I anticipated.

I know many of you, like myself, juggle profound personal commitments with your passion for open source projects, often in silence. It's a tough balancing act.

Last week, I have managed to merge some pending PRs on VeraCrypt's GitHub repository and addressed a query on Sourceforge that I'm planning to implement. I cannot guarantee consistent availability, but I will do my best to dedicate few hours each week to bring the 1.26.10 release to completion.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

      Hi Mounir

I have struggled to get past the spam protection on sourceforge so I am sorry if my message is repeated.

Thank you for writing your post and I am sorry that some have grown impatient.

Please remember there are many VeraCrypt users who have waited quietly and patiently with understanding as we have immense gratitude for what you have given to us all.

You are and will always remain our crypto hero!

I think every VeraCrypt user wants you to code for fun and not out of a feeling of responsibility to us.

When your child grows older they will one day see what their father has done for the crypto community and they will be very proud.

Thanks for all your hard work to date and good luck with your personal life, we all wish you well.

      Hi Mounir,

It’s fantastic to hear from you! No apology is necessary, family comes first.

I’m so sorry to hear matters have become more difficult in recent times. In order to lighten your workload, would you consider seeking help from some of those who have submitted pull requests to the GitHub repository? Perhaps they could save you some time or help with the direct support requests?

I also suggest reaching out to Don Ho as the author of Notepad++ who in recent months marked 20 years for his open-source project. He also balances caring for other members of his family and in recent years has developed a small team of developers who assist him. Perhaps he may have some advice.

I echo Enigma2Illusion's words wishing you and your family the best.

Thank you so much for your dedication and on-going efforts. Like others who posted here, I think you are incredible at what you do! Please take all the time you need to release the next version of VeraCrypt.

Thank you @ajb87351 for your thoughtful message and the encouragement!

It's interesting you mentioned Don Ho—I actually know him personally since our time together at Oberthur Technologies, before it became IDEMIA. I'll definitely reach out to him to seek advice on managing an open-source project while balancing personal commitments.

Thank you also for the proposal about leveraging the help from those who have submitted pull requests. There is one dedicated contributor, @jertzukka, who has been invaluable with the Linux side of VeraCrypt (many PRs on Github). I owe him a huge thanks for his hard work and commitment. However, the main challenge lies in the Windows aspect of VeraCrypt, which is a significant portion of VeraCrypt user base and currently lacks active contributors.

In an effort to foster new interest and involvement, I've been in contact with INSA Rennes engineering school since two years ago, encouraging students to engage with VeraCrypt through various projects. It's a hopeful initiative to inspire the next generation of developers.

Thank you again for your kind words and practical suggestions.

          Hi, Munir,

I hope Veracryp doesn't get involved in political threads, Notepad++ is being boycotted for being involved in political threads; I don't want the open source community to turn into a place for bickering.

FYI: User fzxx is specifically referencing Notepad++ political statements in the download title cards.

            Hi fzxx,

Point taken. I was however only suggesting Mounir adopt practical project management tips from Don Ho and not the practice of expressing a political point of view within developed open source software.

VeraCrypt has always been and will continue to be a neutral project.
As its developer, my primary focus is on providing robust security and software engineering to benefit everyone on the world, without being a platform for specific views or beliefs including my own.

Hi, is there an aproximeta eta of the RC / Final release? You may take all time in the world it's just that I keep visiting this site daily to see if it's done, so any eta would save my sanity, like end of summer or so

Life issues do not have timetables.

Below are two ways you can get notifications of a new release and/or new Nightly Build releases.

      Forum user Gary Marks solution:

      Go to this page:

      https://sourceforge.net/projects/veracrypt/files/

Click on the blue button labeled "Get Updates." The minimum information required is your email address and any name you want to use.

      Forum user Heribert Slama solution:

If you can read RSS feeds then you can go to the files page:

      https://sourceforge.net/projects/veracrypt/files/

Subscribe to the RSS feed for the file activity. The RSS button is on the right-hand side of the heading. I'm subscribed to it using the online service feedly.com as RSS reader. Shows just one line per changed file.

Hi there. Just a random user of the software here! I wanted to add my thanks to @idrassi for all he's done and say, of course, it goes without saying that your important family obligations must take priority.

I would also like to say that in my opinion, people like you are the heroes of the software world. You shoulder the burden of critically important projects seeking no (financial) gain, for no other reason than you believe in the necessity of what you are doing. Please realize that you have the gratitude and respect of the community you serve.
