cannot save modified file in VeraCrypt container, container files do not show in Finder post save failure

I was using VeraCrypt 1.26.7 on MacOS (Sonoma 14.0), with MacFUSE 4.5.0.

After mounting an encrypted volume (on the computer's SSD), and trying to save a modification to a text file (call it secret_file.txt), I got this message from Sublime Text:

Unable to save /Volumes/ENCRYPTED/secret_file.txt Error: Input/output error

If I then try to reload the volume in MacOS Finder, it shows an empty window. If I open the location in a terminal, I can list the files in there, and do: cat secret_file.txt, which lists file content in the terminal. If I unmount the container and try to remount it, I can mount it but not see any files on the decrypted volume in Finder. To be able to see the files in Finder, I need to restore the encrypted file from a backup, and then mount it again - but repeating the above actions causes the issue to repeat.

I tried downgrading to 1.25.9, in case my container was still in TrueCrypt format, but the above behaviour is still there.

I've had a look for recent bug reports or other issues, but haven't seen anything.

I would be delighted if someone would point out some obvious documentation or forum topic dealing with this kind of thing, else some pointers for how to debug this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Andy

      Hi Andrew,
did you find a solution for your issue?
      I'm experiencing the same problem.
I'm using VeraCrypt 1.26.7 on MacOS Sonoma 14.2.1 with MacFUSE 4.5.0.
I'm using FAT as the filesystem inside the container.
      Thanks.

PS: I now found a github issue on this problem:
      https://github.com/veracrypt/VeraCrypt/issues/1228

And in the meantime, I performed some tests using exFAT filesystem inside the container and it seems to work fine.
