I avoid this (at least I think so) by using Auto-Dismount options in Settings; also I define mounted volumes as removable (thus a forced dismount [setting] should not be detrimental). I turn on the following options:
User logs off
Session locked
Entering power saving mode (standby, hibernate)
Force auto dismount ... (removable attribute recommended)

That's interesting. So I guess it's just with system encryption that Veracrypt disables hibernation? Good question about unencrypted data out of swap.
