I know that VeraCrypt can use AES extensions of modern CPUs. What about Trusted Platform Module (TPM) features? I am not saying that it should be a requirement, but it could be an extra security layer if your HDD could only be decrypted while connected to the same MB.
Could using TPM for example be an alternative to caching passwords and keyfiles in RAM?
While on a subject... GPUs provide a lot of untapped processing power, how about adding support using GPUs (while they are idle) to accelerate encryption/decryption?
