well, after compiling cvs today, I have a few comments to make on the state of the engine before the next release :-) first, graphics wise there is almost nothing to fault, the new beams and atmosphere's look great (as does the particle that has been there a while)....one thing to mention, although the power gauge no longer stretches across the screen in time compress, the jump gauge does! also, the missile trails occasionally go wierd and seem to sometimes just randomize behind the missile (not following, just in the direction "not in front") -- although this is only occasional, and may just be due to my orientation compared to the missile the interface seems noticably cleaner, although how much is due to me getting used to it I don't know :-) in fact, there is only one thing that is really bugging me now (everything else is great :-))...that is sound support :-( as in the forum, you can see that (in linux at least) there is sound issues, but apart from those mentioned, sound is generally scrappy, at least for me battles raging systems away are as audible as if they were next to you! all of the in-cockpit sounds (with the exception of the beep) are inaudible (I have to stop my weapons and engine and crank up my speakers to hear them!)...plus there are the doppler and positional issues that have never really been fixed ;-) I think this should be the next thing to be overhauled, if indeed it is a problem for anyone but me, or if only linux users are experiencing it, then it needs to be looked at even more urgently but overall, great work guys :-) Dan.a ooh...and VS compiled without me having to use the other glext.h file too :-) |
