Need more information than "it won't start"

Try to launch it in compatibility mode for win xp, it works fine for me then.

I also have Win 8.1 64-bit and the same problem: setup works but the main program refuses to start. The error report is the same as 2013-11-08 above, but my version is 0.5.1.13349.

The workaround of running in winxp compat mode worked for me, how can the code be modified not to require that and work as installed ?

Savegame and precomputed procedural textures (and other forms of temporary files) should be written in User Data, not Program Files. In Linux, those files are written in the user's home directory, inside a hidden subdirectory called ".vegastrike".

Windows builds should do the equivalent windows thing, store in a subfolder of User Data. Can't remember how that's done though, I haven't done windows stuff in ages. But perhaps someone can?

I think if one looks into src/savegame.cpp one can find all the required code.
