Ok, tried to install vedics 0.5 on opensuse 12.2 x64 from tarball - and after a bit of tinkering, got it installed - and it works ok (as a 0.5 release should work).
Here's what i tinkered with...
1: "make install" won't work as py-compile is really old and broken - delete it and run "automake --add-missing" to fix
2: change the last line in "vedics-0.5/src/vedics" from...
python -c "import vedics.vedics; vedics.vedics.startVedics(\"/usr/lib/vedics/*:$HOME/.VEDICS:$HOME/.VEDICS/grammar\", \"$HOME/.VEDICS\")"
to...
python -c "import vedics.vedics; vedics.vedics.startVedics(\"/usr/lib64/vedics/*:$HOME/.VEDICS:$HOME/.VEDICS/grammar\", \"$HOME/.VEDICS\")"
(in future this should be autodetected for FSB compliant distros)
Suse specific:
3: install "wnck" through yast.
then run "./configure & make & sudo make install" as usual to install
I consider something really special in this web site.

I must express appreciation to this writer just for bailing me out of this particular issue. Because of surfing around throughout the internet and getting tricks that were not powerful, I figured my life was gone. Existing minus the approaches to the issues youve solved all through your good blog post is a serious case, as well as those which might have in a wrong way damaged my entire career if I had not noticed the website. Your main know-how and kindness in maneuvering all areas was very helpful. I am not sure what I wouldve done if I hadnt encountered such a point like this. Its possible to at this point look ahead to my future. Thanks for your time very much for this reliable and result oriented guide. I wont think twice to recommend your web page to anybody who desires care on this subject.
