1. xpdf has soem dependency which i forget now, but i could not get xpdf to work. 2. Also how to associate applications to file types in XFCE ? the available choices are going to the direct path instead of the menu. 3. i know others are looking at this , but the menus are incomplete. 4. i think we can safely ditch seamonkey and restore firefox, with mozplugger. Part of the appeal is to have all media websites working upfront!! And it is better to have all that stuff tested out from earlier in the release process. cheers ram On 8/11/06, Vanger <fa...@gm...> wrote: > > On Fri, 11 Aug 2006 03:33:43 +0400, uel archuletta <ue...@gm...> > wrote: > > > vanger I think i have fixed all of your bugs this time let me know if i > > missed any > Thanks for xdelta in the new iso ;) . You are reading my thoughts! And, please, add unrar and leafpad ;) . About bugs - well, only dublicated "ZAxisMapping" in xorg.conf disappeared. Absent fontpath to cyrillic fonts in xorg.conf still makes me sad. About networking it still doesn't work properly, but - I think, I found the bug. As far as I see, networking is being started in rc.M. The thing is, that vnetadd script (which works perfectly), modifies /etc/rc.d/rc.eth0 . And in the rc.M only rc.inet$i, rc.route and rc.firewall are started. Will try it out now ;) . While typing cd xdelta-1.1.3 && make install in the fourth, or fifth time, I've got an question. Why not to place xdelta package in the dev bulk? It will make test releases more comfortable for all those developer and beta-tesing tasks. To add to this thread of bugs in the 5.9.8.9 iso, xfburn doesn't work, because it was built against beta 1 (looks for libxfce4util.so.2, whereas xfce 4.4 beta 2 has libxfce4util.so.4). I fixed the problem for my use by creating a symlink from libxfce4util.so.4.0.0 to libxfce4util.so.2. However, I think we'll need to be careful to rebuild xfce apps against whatever xfce-du-jour we're using. FWIW, John On 8/10/06, Jose J. I'm not sure what you mean here, vl-hot just issues a mount command for the volume and creates the desktop icons. The filemanager which opens from the vl-hot desktop icon should see the files afterwards. Try refreshing it. If this doesn't work, have an open terminal running tail -f /var/log/messages so we can see what vl-hot is doing ;). > Also, despite unmounting the icons remain on the screen > ( I assume this is to be a feature?). > No, they should dissapear once unmount has finished (this is the actual visual cue that unplugging is safe). Again, a tail should help diagnose this. Sometimes in KDE, a konqueror process will not correctly release the mountpoint, so a simple umount fails and the icon stays. Which is why in KDE, you have the "umount signal" and "unmount kill" right-click actions on the icon. In XFCE however, this kind of actions don't seem to be fully supported yet, which is the reason for the extra unmount icon workaround. If the mountpoint won't unmount normally, then a sync from the terminal should make it safe to remove the drive. Regards, Joe1962 |

A quick fix would be to copy the cups filr from the /etc/rc.d/init.d/sample directory. However, we do need to ensure that any package of cups that we provide includes the /etc/rc.d/init.d/cups script, as the vasm SRVSET script parses /etc/rc.d/init.d to see which services are available to be set. > > - error on boot up "/proc/splash" does not exist. Here are my findings: BUGS? - despite jackd service running still get error when attempting to launch Jack Rack "Could not create JACK client". Also, on shutdown a related error: oss2jack [Failed]. - vl-hot detected but did not see files in a vfat formatted SD memory card reader. These show perfectly with VL SOHO 5.1. Also, despite unmounting the icons remain on the screen ( I assume this is to be a feature?). - cupsd is running but cannot connect through browser to the cups server using http://localhost:631 - error on boot up "/proc/splash" does not exist. Is this due to my not using lilo to boot? ANNOYANCES - gksu is not loaded so hence cannot launch gslapt as a user. - wdm login screen still has dropdown menu showing fluxbox and iceWM (which have been removed). - in the same vein remove .fluxbox and .icewm directories from /etc/skel - xfce4 screensaver plugin has been loaded but there does not seem to be a way to get to this screesaver (or am I blind?). - gnumeric Help menu item is looking for doc files somewhere and they are elsewhere. They are all on the system. Think we need a link to the correct spot. See gnumeric bug reports. SUGGESTIONS - install anacron and inkscape - xfce menu still needs work due to incorrect or misplaced .desktop files. If no one else comes to the fore I may be able to do this but I am unfortunately flat out here with visitors for a few days. Larry |

Well, my feelings about new version are mixed. While 5.9.7.4 could be used to live and work with, this release is more buggy. But it is a step forward. Installation was really speedy and bugless. Can't say this about configuration - net configuration scripts are not working. I'll tell more later. I very like that booting speed has increased - 5.9.7.4 booted in three times more slowly then XP. This is about 1.3 times ;) . The bulk idea was finally realised - it is very handy too. Great packages selection - I would never believe, that iso is less then 400M ;) . But the bugs are now in usability.. I was really disappointed, that there is no fluxbox. Xfce didn't impress me by anything, exept of absence of xmms in the Menu - Multimedia. There are several cool features, but whole DE is not comfortable for me. Yes, that is IMHO. It is the main thing, that spoiled me all the joy from new version - orientation only on xfce. I started using VL, that time a Dynamite4, just because it was speedy, had fluxbox and some great themes for them. I'm really disappointed with that DNS checking on the start of WM and "If you don't have internet connection, you may have troubles". That is why I installpkged the flubox, it does not such a stupidity, sorry. But there are decent Cyrillic fonts, working by default. It is good ;) . More about xorg.conf - there already exist "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" and VL's configuration adds one more "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" > In /etc/fonts/fonts.conf , around line 27 there are entries missing > for the fonts, such as > <dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi</dir> > <dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi</dir> > <dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc</dir> By the way, is it possible by configuring fonts.conf make programs, instead of "Tymes New Roman Cyr" or "Aryal Cyr", to use "DejaVu Serif"? I'm tired to ctrl+a and then change fonts for all Russian texts I want to read.. About that net configuration scripts bug - they just simply fail to work. They say /sbin/vinetset: line 329: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet: No such file or directory /sbin/vinetstart: line 85: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet: No such file or directory I've tried doing symlink and hard link from /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 to /etc/rc.d/rc.inet , but this didn't solve the problem. The scripts now work without any errors, but rc.inet simply does not change, I have to set up my caonnection manually. And even after correction rc.inet1 fails to set up right routes. I just deleted it all and started using ifconfig eth0 192.168.111.2 && route add default gw 192.168.111.1 . That is both simple and working. These all are just minor issues, but they spoil all fun. I need a set of my packages, just to make system usable for me. fluxbox, unrar, leafpad.. That's just sad. -- Using Opera's revolutionary e-mail client: http://www.opera.com/mail/ |

The hardest part is translating the installer and VASM to Indonesian, and make it simpler. :( The funniest part is relacing the decoration (logo, wallpapers, icons, etc) :-) Other than that are the same. I keep the vl-hot up to date, but the new VASM and graphical installer are not adopted yet. I also trying so hard not to upgrading it with slack current, because slack current is using a new glibc. However, I compiled the new gtk-2.10.x and the related packages including the newest xfce4-beta. The X11 is still 6.8.2 because the newer 6.9 requires significantly more memory. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Bahasa Indonesia has also absorbed *a lot* of Dutch words. Perhaps you could talk with xeon and The Headacher about that. :) But anyway, about Dewantara... :) What stock does it derive from? That is the name of our "Father of Education". His complete name was Ki Hajar Dewantara. Break it down further ... Dewa = God (in the sense of Greek/Roman gods) Antara = between So Dewantara, more or less, means God in between that bring the wisdom/harmony. --- hanumizzle <han...@gm...> wrote: > On 8/7/06, Kocil <k0...@ya...> wrote: > > Hi folks. > > > > Allow me to introduce "Dewantara". > > What is the meaning of Dewantara? Hi folks. Allow me to introduce "Dewantara". A VL derivative made for Indonesian "National Education Network" Project. It is targetted for teachers and students of primary school to high school. Wish me and the team can bring this to alive soon. PS. The screenshots are not final. In fact, the attachment was a "bug" report ;-) But any comment is welcome. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
