If you have / as a hostfs (via ubd0=somedir), then daemons which wish to open Unix domain sockets in /var/run fail because one is not permitted to make sockets via mknod(2) on the host file system... Workaround is to mount a small ext2fs on /var/run. A better way would be to mount a ramdisk there, but I'm not sure how to. ] ON HUMILITY: to err is human.
