The only issue is that I'm not allowed to play with the host's kernel at = all (unless I want to land myself in hot water), which is mostly why I'm usin= g UML. I'm allowed to dowload a full 2.4.24 kernel source into my home directory and build UML there. But from what I understand it's only a problem if I'm running hostfs AND then run updatedb whatever that is. Can't I just not run updatedb? Alternatively I could limit what's mounted by hostfs? No, well, the 2.4.19-5um is 1 *year* and half old and has LOTS of bugs! S= o please recompile at least a 2.4.24 guest kernel! If you use an host older than 2.4.25, then you must upgrade it. There is = a bug in the host causing that behaviour: it happens when you run updatedb and = the host /dev/shm dir is reachable through a hostfs mount. So, at least 2.4.24-1 for the guest and 2.4.25 for the host. A 2.4.26 gue= st compiles with little changes (search 2.4.26 onto this list to find the patch). If you use 2.4.24-2 patch, disable HUMFS, or it could not build.
