I feel like I'm missing something really simple. I'm running several Slack images in UML. I've been successfully running 2.4.22 in UML for a week or two. I tried 2.4.23 using uml-patch-2.4.23-1. After starting a UML with the new kernel, nothing sent in via stdin "registers", and it appears to stop giving anything to stdout after init finishes with rc.M. The previous kernel works just fine on the same disk image, which is what has me thinking its the kernel. I have the same problem using a prebuilt 2.4.23 kernel from kernels.usermodelinux.org. I'm attempting to start UML with: ./linux-2.4.23/linux ubd0=/tmp/master.temp,master.disk ubd1=master.swap con0="fd:0,fd:1" rw I've tried with and without con0, con, con1, tty, tty0, etc, etc and directing output to different ttys, ports, etc. No luck. ps says: 27133 pts/1 R 0:01 ./linux-2.4.23/linux [/sbin/agetty] 27135 pts/1 T 0:02 [linux] 27140 pts/1 S 0:00 ./linux-2.4.23/linux [/sbin/agetty] This makes me think agetty is hanging, which would be consistent with what I'm seeing, but I cannot see whats causing it. /etc/inittab has the proper c0/tty0 entry (which is not there by default in slackware). Again, directing output different places does not seem to help. Relevant part of the kernel config: CONFIG_STDIO_CONSOLE=y CONFIG_SSL=y CONFIG_FD_CHAN=y CONFIG_NULL_CHAN=y CONFIG_PORT_CHAN=y CONFIG_PTY_CHAN=y CONFIG_TTY_CHAN=y CONFIG_XTERM_CHAN=y CONFIG_CON_ZERO_CHAN="fd:0,fd:1" CONFIG_CON_CHAN="xterm" CONFIG_SSL_CHAN="pty" CONFIG_UNIX98_PTYS=y CONFIG_UNIX98_PTY_COUNT=256 Guesses?
