I know this has been asked before, but I'm not finding a definitive answer to my question, and was just wondering if anyone could share some light. Thanks to David Coulson, I have seen the light of UML and am starting to get up to speed with it. In short it rocks... One of the things that I am working on is taking Sun/Cobalt's RAQ operating systems and trying to get them to run under UML. The Raq4 OS, is based on a 2.2 kernel (no devfs) and has a variety of other things that make it difficult, if not impractical to run the system under a 2.4 kernel and maintain any level of compatibility. So, my question is wether or not there actually IS a working, maintained UML patch for the 2.2 series architecture. I ask because I do a lot of development work on the Cobalt stuff, and have the software running beautifully in Vmware. I even have it semi functional in a 2.4 UML. My goal is to release a Raq4 Filesystem (unless it violates some sort of licensing from Sun) to the UML community. If the answer is "no, 2.2 is bad, go away" then my other option is to take the Raq550 software, which is based on the 2.4 kernel and start hacking away at that to get it working with UML. This should be trivial, and most likely will be a path that I go down anyways because it is a simple and straightforward task. In any case, you guys have done a great job with this! It opens up the doors to a lot of different possibilities! :) |
