The compiler that shipped with Red Hat 7.3 should be OK, but there is
an update (gcc-2.96-112).

Assuming the update is installed, that would be my guess.  I would
suggest getting memtest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/) and letting it
run for a while on your system.  Also make sure your system isn't
overheating.
