I want to know, do the 'input drivers' for UML support Unix98 terminals? If this is a totally stupid question, please be patient. The reason I ask is, when I build UML (2.4.18-32) from source, I can run it, sorta. I cannot get any of the input drivers to work quite right. the xterm driver never opens an xterm. and the pts/pty driver doesn't work either, ditto for port. Maybe it's just my machine. BUT, I modified the arch/um/drivers/xterm.c file and I got it to work a little better. Now at least the xterms show up. I stole the code from Eterm that opens '/dev/ptmx' and uses ptsname(fd) to get the correct '/dev/pts/?' string for the slave device. Now I get the login prompt, but when I type 'root' it sits there for a minute the comes back 'Invalid login'. Is there some problem with /bin/login and Unix98 pts support? I know this is rambling, but it is late here and I have been tinkering with this WAY too long now. Strangly enough, I can find NO mention of Unix98/devfs/UML problem. Lee Saferite |
