Please not that part of that thread is incorrect.  According to Sun the 
jre/lib/ext directory is designed for official javax extensions AND user 
defined extensions.  Please disregard what I said previously about which 
directory to place the database drivers.  To get the project to run, for 
now, place the jars in the Extensions directory.

$JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext

Like I said, I'm working on a better solution.  This page is worth 
reading...
