Your UPM db was most likely overwritten by hers when she saved her UPM db to your Dropbox. AFAIK, there is no way to recover/revert the UPM db file back to your db. Only thing I can suggest is to have her backup her UPM to her own Dropbox and you can then manually overwrite the UPM.db file on your Dropbox with the your UPM db. EDIT: Dropbox does have folder history options but those look to be locked away behind their paid storage options.

I upgraded UPM on a Windows 10 PC to version 1.15 from version 1.14, and since that time the database has refused to open with the message "incorrect password". This database has open 100+ times in the past, and I KNOW that the password has not been changed. I also had a saved version of the database on Dropbox - it also failed to open with the same message. Help!

So a specific case: 1. Both clients are configured to use the same remote file. I use the Android client to add an account. 2. Synchronise this with the server. 3. Observe desktop client is unaware of server update.

I have set up my laptop and phone to synchronise to my web server, and each can read/write at leisure. However after the initial configuration either an upload, download etc. of the password file, each client seems to forget that it needs to synchronise and just starts working on its own local copy. If I make a new account on either device, that change is not propagated to the server. Is this by design? I hope there is a better solution than continually deleting/installing the android app to retrieve...

Ok, so now, good luck! Upm is a good and rocky software, unfortunately (maybe) little maintained by its developer, but things happen, life goes on.. ;-)

Good check , but I never use FTP, only SSH (and sftp/scp/rsync). I'm pretty sure it wasn't an integrity issue because clients could and did sync down from the previous server correctly. But thanks for thinking of everything possible. I really appreciate you making so much effort to help me. Set up on a desktop machine. Still errors, but now no longer includes the contents of deletefile.php. Instead, I now get an error alert reading: There's been some kind of problem deleting a file to the HTTP server. The error message is [FILE_WASNT_DELETED]. Now /v/l/a/error.log shows: PHP Warning: unlink(./upm.db): Permission denied in /var/www/upm/deletefile.php on line 46 FIXED FIXED FIXED! Tried it, didn't work. I changed the whole of /var/www (recursively) to www-data:www-data. Same symptoms. Are we stuck? If so I'll try to set up apache on a desktop machine and run it on demand. I appreciate that. I did not have the ErrorLog directive in my vhost config. I've added it. Sorry, still just the same GET and POST entries in /v/l/a/other_vhosts_access.log, and nothing in /v/l/a/error.log (except the usual couple of entries for the 'graceful' restart I did after editing the vhost config). This is after four attempted upload syncs, with each resulting in the same client-side behaviour documented in my initial report (error alert containing the full text of deletefile.php). /var/www/upm/upload.php...

..without an error log it's like being blind in the darkest night. Have you enabled Apache error log on your vhost? ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log anyway, I don't see on your log (after the "POST /upm/deletefile.php HTTP/1.1" 200 278 "-" "Jakarta Commons-HttpClient/3.0"): "POST /upm/upload.php HTTP/1.1" 200 do you have it?

Thanks Davide. I don't remember using mod_security on the old server; I have done nothing to install or configure it on the new one. I do see libapache2-mod-security2 available in the repo. Do I need to install it? Nothing appears in either /v/l/a/error.log or /v/l/a/access.log when I try to perform a db upload. There is no /v/l/a/modsec_audit.log. I hope this is helpful. Are you using mod_security (1)? Have you tried (while performing a db upload) to: tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log and tail -f /var/log/apache2/access.log again are you using mod_security (2)? Verify while performing a db upload: tail -f /var/log/apache2/modsec_audit.log obviously if you use another web server use the specific log files ;-)
