Ran win32 version and the video is thrashing back and forth as if between two different views every 1/2 second. running on win xp, default game resolution (800x600 false). Is there a simple fix? Thanks
Ed

It does that when your framerate is too low. I think one thing that has caused this a lot in Windows is having your desktop display depth set incorrectly - try changing to 32 bit color in Windows (see TROUBLESHOOTING.txt file included with the game). Another possibility could be out-of-date video drivers - try downloading drivers from your video card manufacturer's web site.
Finally, the problem might simply be an insufficient graphics card or CPU. The 1.0 version of the game is not particularly well-optimized, so, despite its modest look, you should probably have a graphics card capable of playing at least Quake 2 generation games in GL mode.
