Is this the first time you've used Tux Paint, or did you have an older version installed previously? Did you make any configuration changes (e.g., using the Tux Paint Config. tool that comes with TUx Paint)? Does Tux Paint launch _at all?_ i.e., does a window appear, and then disappear when it crashes? Or does nothing appear at all? If Tux Paint is configured to load system fonts, you might want to try disabling it, in case there's a TrueType Font (TTF) that's causing issues. Thanks in advance for any further details you can provide! -- -bill! Sent from my computer |

Rahul responded to me off-list, so pasting it here :) ===== Thanks for your response. Regarding you queries: This is the first time I have tried installing Tux Paint on my laptop and version is 0.9.26. When i click on Tux Paint icon, nothing happens, no window appears, no error message as if I havent clicked on anything. I tried opening TuxPaint config but haven't changed anything in window which opens. Also how do i know if its Tuxpaint is trying to load System fonts and how do i disable it if its causing issue. Please advise. Thanks ===== Hi again Rahul, So in Tux Paint Config., under the "Languages" tab, see if the "Load System Fonts" option (on the right, in the section labeled "Fonts") is checked. If it is, try un-checking it, then click "Apply" at the bottom. Try launching Tux Paint again. If it was already unchecked, or changing it didn't help, it might be useful to get a copy of any errors that are being emitted by Tux Paint. In the folder where the Tux Paint EXE file is installed (e.g., ... ummm ... I'm not a Windows user, so bear with me ... "C:\Program Files (x86)\TuxPaint" I think?), look for files named "stderr.txt" and/or "stdout.txt". Feel free to paste the contents of them, or attach them to your email, in reply to this message. Thanks! -bill! Hi Bill, In Config window, Load System fonts option was already unchecked. Also stderr.txt and stdout.txt files are both empty with 0 kb file. Please see attached screenshots. Also please note i have already tried uninstalling and installing TuxPaint again earlier to resolve this issue. Which 0.9.26? https://sourceforge.net/projects/tuxpaint/files/tuxpaint/0.9.26/ Please make sure you are trying with the newest 0.9.26-6 Did you try with the zip or with the installer? x86_64 or i686? > When i click on Tux Paint icon, nothing happens, no window appears, no > error message as if I havent clicked on anything. > I tried opening TuxPaint config but haven't changed anything in > window which opens. > Also how do i know if its Tuxpaint is trying to load System fonts and how > do i disable it if its causing issue. > > > Please advise. Thanks > > ===== > > Hi again Rahul, > > So in Tux Paint Config., under the "Languages" tab, > see if the "Load System Fonts" option (on the right, in the > section labeled "Fonts") is checked. Also in the Languages tab, please select any language, IIRC there was some 0.9.26-X release failing to start if language was set to system's default. Another thing that could be interesting to explore is if your laptop has a multiuser installation and the user that is trying to run Tux Paint has very low privileges. HTH Pere |

Thanks Pere. After i set Language to English instead of System default, I was able to launch Tux Paint. However there is some problem with Menu and window size. It doesnt display weel and menu items like Tools and Brushes are getting chopped. I later found out that this is some already known issue. Hoping to get it fixed soon as I have to work with window size of 800 * 600 or change my laptop display size to 100% which literl=ally makes my laptop font non readable. Hi Rahul, Are you using 0.9.26-6? I ask because the crash with the system default language setting is supossed to be fixed in 0.9.26-6 and if it is not fixed we would want to know. > However there is some problem with Menu and window size. > It doesnt display weel and menu items like Tools and Brushes are > getting chopped. One workaround you could currently try is, all in tuxpaint-config: Uncheck fullscreen and set the size of the window to the maximum size of your screen then set Tux Paint to grab the mouse so it stays inside the Tux Paint window and finally set the Tux Paint's button size to something bigger so you can read what is inside buttons.
