Is there a way to save as jpg so that it can be imported to other applications? I really wanted to use it to illustrate a book we are working on. Thanks, Leialoha Kelekolio |

You can use any tool that understands both PNG and JPEG formats (practically any graphcis tool, these days) if you really wanted to convert the images. For printed books, though, I'd stick to using the original PNG file, since JPEGs introduce some 'artifacts' that can make pictures look bad. Especially if you take something like a picture drawn in Tux Paint and try to increase its size for printing at 300dpi or more, at a reasonable physical size on the page. ( See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compression_artifact ) In any case, you can find Tux Paint's saved pictures on your hard drive, in PNG format, fairly easily. This page explains where, for Linux, Windows and Mac OS X, assuming you haven't reconfigured Tux Paint to save them elsewhere. (In which case, you should already _know_ where they are! ;^) ) http://www.tuxpaint.org/gallery/submit/ Good luck, and have fun making the book! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

It's in iPhoto. There's an option to drop photos into a book format. Our district superintendant wants us to complete at least one book by May so I'm trying to figure out the logistics right now. That reminds me, I really have know idea what it would _mean_ to 'integrate with iLife', and don't have a development Mac to work on (nor really much time, even if I did), but it's one of those things that are on the roadmap for Tux Paint. Obviously, don't hold your breath. :) Thx and good luck! I'd love to hear how it went! -bill! |

http://aroundcny.com/technofile/texts/tec092302.html Hi Leialoha, Not sure what version of iPhoto you're using, but according to the link above, you can drop a folder full of PNG images onto the iPhoto "Organize" window, and iPhoto will import all of them and store them as PNG files. The link was posted in 2002, so the information might not apply, but it's worth a try. Let us know what happens. --Peter Bill Kendrick <nb...@so...> wrote: On Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 08:18:36AM -1000, Leialoha_Kelekolio/KANOELANI/HI...@no... wrote: > It's in iPhoto. I was wondering about png settings. naming conventions etc. If I want to open a png from another program to edit in Tux what I have to do to it? size? name? formatting? --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. |

Hi Henry. Tux Paint's documentation covers all of this. I've not had time to post the latest version's docs on the website, but you should already have them on the system onto which you installed Tux Paint. Additionally, you can read the absolute latest (while we're developing it) online here: http://tuxpaint.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/tuxpaint/tuxpaint/docs/html/README.html In fact, THAT version of the document (which will be part of the next release) is quite a bit more accurate and up-to-date regarding this very topic. Good luck! PS - It's the section entitled "Loading Other Pictures into Tux Paint", neasr the end of the document. -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

I'm running windows version 9.18 11-22 on Dell GX1s and Compaq DeskPro ENs Just came back from break and my Tech had kindly installed the new upgrade... I'm finding that on about half my computers >but not all< that the Kaleidoscope tool is crashing the program at various points... such as the point the finger lifts from the mouse or when the line meets itself. It's happening on both older and newer machines and I don't know the memory specs... these are hand-me-downs so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little variance tho the Compaqs SHOULD be lots better than the old Dells... any ideas? Either re-enable sound effects or, alternatively, remove these two magic tools. Windows: Remove the files 'shift.dll' and 'kalidescope.dll' from the 'plugins' folder in your Tux Paint installation (e.g., under 'C: \Program Files\TuxPaint\') Sorry about this - hopefully the new windows version will be packaged soon :) Caroline > > ______________________________________________________________________ |

Actually, there is now a build from December 31st, but it's just an EXE you'd drop into your C:\Program Files\TuxPaint\, or wherever Tux Paint is installed. It's also available from: http://www.tuxpaint.org/docs/known_issues/ under the "Tux Paint launches but then quits (but used to run)" item for Windows issues. It _should_ also address this crash-when-sound-is-off issue for those two magic tools. I should update the Known Issues page to point that out. Sorry! :) Thx, -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

Ok. While I await my tech's availability to download and reinstall tux I have sound re-enabled and the speakers muted... Interestingly I note that on SOME but not all the machines muting the speakers has ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT AT ALL! SOME 'muted' computers are just as noisey as ever -- TOP VOLUME even! Others are silent as the grave... I suspect that this has already been reported elsewhere of course now where are my ear-plugs? VBG cheers! -henry Bill Kendrick <nb...@so...> wrote: On Tue, Jan 08, 2008 at 09:58:15PM +0000, Caroline Ford wrote: > This was a bug that was fixed before Christmas and is caused by running > with the sound disabled. > > 0.9.19CVS isn't packaged for windows yet. 0.9.18 has the bug. Err.. hrm. This sounds more like an OS problem (if you're muting via the software sound controls), or a hardware problem (if you have MUTE buttons on the speakers :) ) Tux Paint itself controls only its own volume, which should never be higher than your system/speaker volume. I've never heard of this issue from anyone else, either about Tux Paint specifically, or the libSDL libraries it uses underneath the hood for sound/video. (At least, never seen it on the libSDL mailing lists.) Do other apps seem to ignore the MUTE? :^/ Thanks! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

using the std. Windows speaker mute/volume ctrl in the tray on all machines Windows 2000 OS don't have much experience with sound on these machines.. no headphones in my art lab. havent noticed anything much using speakers. up til Tux I HAD thought they only beeped and blurped.... :-D Bill Kendrick <nb...@so...> wrote: On Thu, Jan 10, 2008 at 06:58:15AM -0800, henry taylor wrote: > Interestingly I note that on SOME but not all the machines muting the speakers has ABSOLUTELY NO EFFECT AT ALL! > SOME 'muted' computers are just as noisey as ever -- TOP VOLUME even! seems to be my bad weekend for Tux... Installed the upgrade at home on XP os over old installation... figured it might use old C:/Documents and Settings/HP_Administrator/My Documents/My Pictures/My Art/Tuxpaint/saved/ for saving work or in any case could easily be found... made 3 pics cant find em anywhere They were on tux for a while -heh heh heh-- but I demolished that! Saved Directory indicated the same ol directory: C:/Documents and Settings/HP_Administrator/My Documents/My Pictures/My Art/Tuxpaint/saved/ used Alternate to 'reinforce' and obviously (vbg) that was NOT the thing to do. found my OLD pics lost the NEW ONES search indicates I have only the SINGLE name validating file that verified THAT the "2008112..." (todays date) convention remained in place... clearly tux didn't save those files it saved on THIS computer. vbg. THE FILES ARE OUT THERE SOMEWHERE. If you see em send em home. everything works fine now that I've officially set the Alt destination but fwiw this block was originally clipped outta Tux: "C:/Documents and Settings/HP_Administrator/My Documents/My Pictures/My Art/Tuxpaint/saved/" No biggie. I'm on to new Pics for the son in law. --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. |
