Hello everyone, I've just subscribe to the TuxPaint developer mailing list. Are you interested in nw designs for the TuxPaint icons ? And perhaps a new way to organize the GUI ? Thanks for answers. See you soon. Jonathan |

Hi Jonathan, I'm certainly interested in new icons, esp. if they come
in the form of either (1) SVG vectors, or (2) very, very large, scalable
PNGs.
The reason is three fold:
(1) At least one teacher has asked if Tux Paint's icons were available
in 8"x11" format, for printing on paper, to teach students about
the program. Sadly, no, they're all currently ~40x40 _pixels_. :^(
(2) Vector-based images will (hopefully) scale down well, and look good,
but also be editable in the future.
(3) I'd like Tux Paint to be theme'able, and one aspect of this is increasing
the size of the buttons (from the 48x48 with 40x40 icons within),
which would help with:
(a) people using Tux Paint at huge resolutions (48x48 was fine for 640x480
on a screen that was at 640x480 thru 1024x768 or so, but any higher,
and the UI starts getting small, relative to the screen area).
(b) users with visual impairments
In addition to larger icons, it would be nice to have a 'high contrast'
UI, but that mostly has to do with the glossy, candy-like, Apple Mac OS X
Aqua(tm) insipired button backgrounds.
Thanks,

Let me add my two cents worth. Now that we're talking about updating the UI and the Web pages, this is an excellent chance to create a consistent, uniform design -- a 'Tux Paint look', if you like. This would be based on the same colours, graphics, style of graphics, design elements, and overall design. Both in the game (including the splash screen and icon), the Web pages and the documentation. And the business cards! :) -- Regards, Karl Ove Hufthammer |

I think it's fine to not restrict all three apps and force them to look so much the same. :) -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

That's a very cool idea. :) Of course, I'd want both (esp. considering Tux Paint runs on other platforms). -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |
