I apologize that I didn't get any discussions going with this community
previously.
I'm a 60 year old single father who has been raising my daughter ( born
May 1999 ) by myself for 5 1/2 years now. I have appointer her as my CSO
-- Chief Scampering Officer. She loves Tux Paint we got as a part of
Edubuntu and makes backgrounds that I put on her flash drive. This
marvelous program is also present on at least one other of my boxes,
under Fedora. My project, if approved, will let her do the whole thing
herself.
Out of the 160 or so sponsoring organizations, I applied through one
other (RTEMS) and this one.
After 26 years not in school, I went back ( to The University of
Tennessee Chattanooga ) in Computer Science, where I hope to finish in
Spring 2009.
I have long favored Open Source and have a ( sadly neglected ) chess
program in C ( ch0 ) on Sourceforge. I lurk on gcc's gcc and fortran
mailing lists, but I also do a little with Python, Java, and Mono.
I am subscribed to this list, and will welcome discussion either here or
in private email.
