How do you propose to reliably handle the varying dependency needs
across a broad number of platforms with ever-changing versions of
dependencies and relationships between them?  I don't care which build
system you use.  I'm just pointing out that hand-rolled systems break
easily.  I believe that in tuxpaint it's a real problem that needs to be
addressed sooner or later.
