A beta release of what will become Tux Paint 0.9.28 has been made available for Windows (11, 10, 8, 7, and Vista). It comes in eight -- count them, eight! -- variations. As usual, we have versions for both 64-bit ("x86_64") and 32-bit ("i686") CPU architectures. And both as an installer program ("setup.exe"-style) and as a self-contained, stand-alone ZIP archive ("portable" version). This time around, we're also building Tux Paint against two versions of the library that we use for graphics, sound, and input, the Simple DirectMedia Layer library (aka SDL or libSDL). Since the beginning (20 years ago next month!) Tux Paint for Windows has used SDL 1.2. A fork of Tux Paint, ported to use the newer SDL 2.0 library, has been maintained for a number of years (thanks, Pere!) as that's what's required for the Android port. Today, both SDL 1.2 and 2.0 builds have been created (thanks, Shin-Ichi!). Our long-term goal is to provide the SDL 2.0-based version moving forward, but have an SDL 1.2 version available in case anyone has any issues with the 2.0 version (especially on older versions of the Windows OS). You can learn more, and download them here: https://tuxpaint.org/beta/ Thanks in advance! -- -bill! Sent from my computer |
