In tuxpaint-config there is the switch for all users vs current user, make sure both points to the same place, just in case, and do this logged as yours daughter's user. Also, if you changed the "save" dir, make sure your daughter's user is able to read/write into the new place. I see you say in your first mail you changed also the "data" dir, that's a different thing, you should not change it unless you place brushes, stamps, etc. in the new place. If you still have problems, the contents of stdout.txt in the directory where tuxpaint resides could help to debug.
