Hello, this is Bill Kendrick, lead developer of Tux Paint.
This is just a brief note to let you know that a new version of
Tux Paint for Windows has been released. It corrects an issue
that affected the latest few releases (version 0.9.20 from June 2008
and version 0.9.21 from July 2009).
When Tux Paint is first launched, it can take a very long time for it
to respond while it looks for fonts that it can use on your computer.
Often, this can lead to a warning message stating that Tux Paint
may have crashed. Usually, subsequent launches respond much
more quickly, since Tux Paint already knows about your fonts.
This minor update, version 0.9.21b, should no long appear to have
crashed while searching for fonts. Additionally, the font-gathering
step should take much less time. [*]
It is available for Windows 7, Vista, XP and 2000 as an installer ("setup")
program, which can be downloaded right now, at no cost, from the official
Tux Paint website:
http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/windows/
Enjoy, and happy new year!
-bill!
(With kudos to John Popplewell, a contributing volunteer who helps make
the Windows version of Tux Paint possible!)
[*] These improvements, plus many other new features, will be included
in the next version of Tux Paint (0.9.22) for Windows, Mac OS X
and Linux. (Linux was unlikely to be affected by the issue, since
fonts were managed outside of Tux Paint.) Unfortunately, there is
no estimated release date for the next version, which is why we
released this minor update for Windows users.
