Has SDL_ttf or FreeType updated on your system?  I _did_ touch a lot of
font-related stuff when adding SDL_Pango support, so perhaps I caught and
fixed a bug there...?

I've definitely still seen it crash when trying to use system-wide fonts,
unfortunately.

The Sparkles tool has been removed; perhaps you need to do an
uninstall and reinstall?

The old sparkles were replaced with a brush that does pretty much the
same thing (sans sound effects).  A new tool was written that I ended
up naming "Light."

As in, not gettext()ed?  Or as in, you don't know what I mean by the word?
The effect is vaguely based on the invisibility effect of the Predator
from the Predator movies, honestly. :)  But more realistically, you can think
of it as the effect hot air has when you look through it (like heat coming
off the back of a jet engine).  Does that make sense?
