Ah.  My system was a bit out of date.  I had libsdl 1.2.11-3 and am now
at 1.2.11-4.  I also had sdl-ttf2.0 2.8.0-2 and am now at 2.8.0-3.

However, even after the upgrade, Traditional Chinese fonts are still
mangled.

Ugh.  OK.  What versions of SDL/ttf do you use on Ubuntu, then?
