Thanks for the suggestion.  It's been a while ago since my last  
attempt at an OS X 10.2.8 build, so I really can't recall how I  
compiled the dependencies, but it gives me something to focus on if I  
give it another go.  I suppose all the libraries need to be compiled  
with gcc 3.3.
