I do not get a crash (CVS as of Fri Jun 27 00:36:00 UTC 2008
running on Ubuntu 8.04 with libsdl-pango1 v. 0.1.2-3,
libpango1.0-0 v. 1.20.1-1.

I notice a lot fewer fonts appear available, no doubt due to
font tweaking based on content in the PO file (e.g., 'translation' of
'qx', 'QX', 'qy', 'oO', etc.)

These don't appear to be set in zh_tw.po or zh_cn.po.
(The former seems to incorrectly(?) repeat the msgids,
the latter simply leaves the msgstrs blank (""))

Can you post more debugging info? (stack trace, etc.)
