AOE media GmbH ( http://aoemedia.de/ ) in Germany has contacted me about sponsoring the Tux Paint project. They sponsor and utilize the TYPO3 content management system software, and have sponsored various other Open Source projects (e.g., ImageMagick). They have offered to donate one of three things to the project: * Website redesign, including a TYPO3 CMS setup OR: * $75 USD / month (While I'm not really interested in doing lots of paperwork to ensure precisely where this goes, it's likely that it would end up going towards the $120/mo that I pay for my colo at ServerBeach, which FYI also hosts BillsGames.com and NBSWebFX.com; currently, banner ads from all three sites, plus TP- and NBS-related CafePress sales, and various PayPal donations pay enough to keep it going without my wife getting upset about our budget) OR: * Server hosting/mirroring I'm vaguely interested in site redesign, but I'm also afraid of (1) doing a lot of heavy website work while, at the same time, trying to manage the GSoC program over the coming months, and (2) ending up receiving something that's hard to maintain. Really, what I want, is a Usability specialist to come in and look at the site and tell me what needs to be changed, then we can change it at our leisure. (Sadly, Tux Paint wasn't accepted for this year's Season of Usability program.) I'm not interested in server space, since I have my own, I enjoy 'owning' it (root access, remote management, etc.), and I'd have to pay the same amount for it every month ANYWAY, to keep the other two sites alive. In turn for sponsorship, they've asked us to put a link on the navigation bar on the left side of the pages of the Tux Paint website (below the Google banner square, random review quote, and Google search-this-site box). (I would, of course, also add them to the "Sponsors" section of the Links page of the site.) Does anyone have a problem with this? And do you mind if I ask them for the $75/month (not sure how long it'll last, but anything helps; if I can offset costs I won't end up trying to do extra side-work, which means more time for Tux Paint ;^) ) Also, FYI, I recently received a $100 donation from a schoolteacher, and used the bulk of it (~$86) to create another 1000 Tux Paint business cards, which I hand out to parents, and will give out at events (such as http://www.lugod.org/projects/yccdc/ ) Thanks, -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |
