The Selection
Modern Programms Paint.NET, Ibis Paint, Flipaclip And Even On MS Paint Have This Function For Years. Adding Lasso, Rectangular and Elliptical selection will improve editing - allowing drag, copy/paste and resize elements easily
The Layers
Just like Selection, basic layer support will make editing much easier without overwhelming young users. It would allow for much more creative freedom
Hotkeys
Adding standard Hotkeys will improve the editing for teens and adults
Here are basic but yet essential shortcuts
Ctrl+Z - Undo
Ctrl+Y - Redo
Ctrl+S - Save
Ctrl+O - Open
Ctrl+N - New
Ctrl+C - Copy
Ctrl+V - Paste
Ctrl+X - Crop
Ctrl+A - Select All (If Possible)

Thanks for your feedback. We do hope to some day add some kind of selection tool, for both copy/paste, but also creation of new stamps, applying painting and effects to only certain parts of the canvas, etc. However, it's a very big task to add this, and we've not had the bandwidth to do so. (See https://sourceforge.net/p/tuxpaint/feature-requests/74/)
Layers is not something we have planned at this time.
Tux Paint has always offered keyboard shortcuts for many actions (^S for save, ^O for open, ^Z for undo, ^R for redo, ^N for new, ^P for print, Alt+S for sound toggle), and more recently gained some quick access keystrokes (X+click for eraser, Ctrl+click for color pipette).
Finally, thanks for the list of birds. It takes a bit of work to prepare images for use as stamps, but so does tracking down suitable content (licensed appropriately, of high quality, etc.) to use. Appreciate the effort, and will create a new Task ticket based on what you've collected.
Take care!

Sure, thanks! But you were planned to add selection as 15 years ago. Im using Flipaclip, Ibis Paint and Tux Paint a long time and i see a huge gap between them and tux paint. Even mobile young users (including my little brother) using selection and layers as well. So if you make an effort to this, most users will get less effort for painting or editing in Tux Paint
Also Flipaclip (only premium) already get the tools similar to Tux Paint stamps (but custom one)
