All of my TG files from the pre-2016 SVN version of TuxGuitar come up with a "Java heap space" error and refuse to open. I would just convert these to GP5 files using the old SVN version, which would work as a valid workaround, but I lost the files for that SVN version, and I can't get the snapshot of that version to work anymore.

Basically, if anyone has the older SVN version from before there was the official 1.3 release, sending that to me could essentially fix this, but shouldn't the TG files open in the new version anyway?

You shouldn't save to TG format in a development version, export it to TG-1.2 or any other format.
1.3 will open 1.2, 1.1, 1.0, files but not every changes in svn revisions.

Could you send us one of that files? i'll try to find a way to open it.

In my defense, TuxGuitar hadn't had a stable release in 5 years at the time and the official forums had been left full of spam, so I assumed the project was abandoned and the dev version I was using was the last version there would ever be.
Clearly I was wrong, but let's not dwell on that point.

Thanks. Even if you don't get it working, I'll be very grateful that you tried. :)
If it helps, this version seems to be able to open the file, but I can't get the plugin files working so it can export it(Or even play it back): https://sourceforge.net/p/tuxguitar/code/1306/tree/trunk/TuxGuitar-testing/
Let me know how it goes.

    Yes that helps.

I attach you a new version of tuxguitar-compat plugin that should supports your file formats.

You have to replace it in share/plugins folder and try open your files.

Let me know if it works.
    Cheers
