I haven't seen any updates to the official sources since 2010.
Debian does have one patch from a couple of years later:

Beyond that only packaging changes.
I think that if you can come up with some reasonable patches, Wayne
Davison who last maintained trn would be willing to integrate those.
Wayne nowadays takes care of the rsync project and contributes
regularly, if not often.
