Yes and no. It always did include some trn mode pollution, but this version was a lot worse. >> 2) Sometimes, it hangs loading the overview (or possibly just takes >> so long that I give up). I have discovered what the problem is, and it's only partially trn's fault - basically, it's a misdesign of raw mode that I know of old, but this was a new symptom. >Finally, something you more or less excluded above, but I cannnot help >hinting towards it: it is worth considering using trn in trn-mode; it adds >a lot of extra features which provide more control over how you read your >news. As I said, I utterly abominate Unix raw mode, curses and everything to do with them, because of their appalling misdesign and ergonomics, and loathe threads! If I can't get it to run in rn mode, I will go to a proper WIMP interface (possibly thunderbird, though it's pretty ghastly, too). I have located those problems in the source, and trodden on them in the code. Most seem to be the result of adding trn features without bypassing them in rn mode. My hacks are not worth turning into fixes. >Good luck, regards, Patrick. Thanks. I have (largely) hacked around them now, but followup isn't working (probaably due to password issues). Curiously, Pnews is. I have some straces and will check what is different and see if I can find the offending code. Regards, Nick Maclaren. |
