You have to give us way more details!  DId you put this in the
global section or in the subsections?  You can not put this in the
global section!

I prefer to not use mailto at all.  Just run tripwire from crontab
every night and mail the whole thing.  Like this:

5 5 * * * /usr/sbin/tripwire -m c -s 2>&1 | mail ge...@re... -s "dogbert-tripwire"

How about learing to set your right margin before sending much more mail?
