Hi, I see from some past posts that some pcmcia network cards are working now. Is anyone using a laptop that has the network card on the motherboard? I am using a Compaq Presario 1825 with a Intel PRO/100 s Mobile LAN. When I run netcfg with Trinux, it allows me to enter the IP address, subnet, gateway and DNS and then gives me this error: eepro100: wait_for_cmd_done timeout! Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this problem. Thanks, Mark |

Thanks for the reply... let's say I have Win2000 on C: partition and D: with D:\trinux (D is formatted as FAT) On NT OS Loader I want to add one line of boot menu to boot trinux or go directly to D drive. I know how to edit boot.ini file but I don't know what to add... [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINNT35 [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(2)partition(1)\WINNT35="Windows NT Workstation Version 3.51" C:\bootsect.dos = "DOS" ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ D:\trinux\trinux.bat = "Trinux" ===> I know this is stupid test. It has to be boot sect on C:\*****.*** Does anybody has any idea to boot or can go to D: directly ? This is the correct MD5 checksum on the image file (when downloaded with IE, Lynx, Links) 767e5a4d2bfeb00459f59e44ca5b3046 1123boot.flp However, md5 is not needed to verify the integrity of the file. Lenght is adequate. This should be the proper length: [root@home /root]# ls -al 1123boot.flp -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1474560 Nov 28 07:12 1123boot.flp Netscape (only WinNT4 was tested) seems to corrupt to corrupt the file. The length reported was 1,480,078 bytes and obviously a different MD5. The bottom line: don't use netscape to download the file. Hope this helps. -mdf |

On the beta site (http://www.io.com/~mdfranz/trinux/ ) there should be two packages that work with the 23nov boot disk. serial.tgz - contains minicom, pppd, serial and ppp kernel modules isdn.tgz - contains isdn modules Its not that I'm opposed to Trinux being used as a firewall, its just that are a much better solutions out there and I don't try to compete with them. -mdf |

I know I should have not asked that firewall thing... It's my shame I've not read carefully the site. I apologize for that. Bye, Paolo |

Hi all^_^ is it possible to add ISDN support to Trinux? I'd like to use one of my machines as a firewall/router between my network and the Internet, this machine would mount a network card, an ISDN card (Teles 128K internal (ISA BUS)) and a floppy drive for the boot. The rest of the modules would be retrieved from a web server on my LAN. My idea is to add ppp and ISDN card support myself, if possible I'd like to not recompile the kernel. Is it feasible? Thank you in advance. Paolo Gaiardelli |

Hello All- I'm trying to get Trinux to run on an IBM Thinkpad 755c and am getting error messages saying the floppy cannot be found. It reads off of the floppy and loads initrd, bzimage and the kernal...but then gives the error message that the *device is not configured* I understand that Thinkpads are quirky and that I may have to make edits in the syslinux.cfg file on the boot floppy. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Regards, Shawn Merdinger |

After you login, if you type 'passwd' it is complaining with the following message. crypt: Operation not supported. This 'passwd' was in the auth.tgz package. Anyone has idea for this ? Do I need other lib or util ? And, I noticed that server.tgz was distributed in Trinux-pre049 (HDD version). Since then I don't see the server.tgz updated. If I'm not wrong, please correct me or any plan to update server.tgz ? The older server.tgz doesn't work with Trinux 070 ver.(floppy). I think it's compiled with older compiler and linker. The reason why I'm using server.tgz is to use telnetd and ftpd. I'm currently using OpenSSH but, sometimes it's not good to maintain private and public keys. Please try that or even the 0.47 version first. > It would be easier to help if you are still having problems after that. http://trinux.sourceforge.net/beta/boot071pre2.flp Another likely problem is the 0.70 uses 2.2.14 (I think) and pre 071pre2 release uses 2.2.16. All of the packages in http://trinux.sourceforge.net/pkg/ are for 2.2.16 I have not actually tested nfs, but I did run into some problems with smbfs (both with the busybox mount and the full blown mount). I was also unable to get sharity-light working which does user-space SMB via NFS. -mdf ------------------------------------- Matthew Franz mf...@ci... I could use a little help in using a Trinux system as an NFS client. I'm wanting to run some forensics tools on a system, and if I could dump the data to an NFS-mounted filesystem it would save me a lot of time. After loading Trinux from all three floppies, I get the fsmods package: getpkg fsmods.tgz and then insmod sunrpc insmod lockd insmod nfs At this point I see nfs in /proc/filesystems. When I try mounting mount -t nfs 192.0.0.1:/fs /mnt I get the messages: nfs warning: mount version older than kernel NFS: mount program didn't pass a remote address! mounting 192.0.0.1:/fs on /mnt failed: invalid argument Mount is from BusyBox 0.46, Trinux is 0.70. The problem is at the client end, since I can mount the filesystem from other hosts, and I don't see any network traffice when I attempt to mount. Any hints out there? Thought I might post this little tidbit as it might help someone: I downloaded trinux-070.tar on a windoze pc. In order to decompress it = correctly using Winzip I had to rename the file back to trinux-070.tgz = on my PC in order for Winzip to work correctly. It seems pretty obvious to me now but thought I would post this anyway = as it might help someone. |
