Yes, it seems that Debian is still using the old icon. (Filling a bug with that mail; please note when you file it as a Debian bug, it cannot be forgotten so easily -- I almost did as you can see from my response time) However, I have one request: Can you please also add the icons to the trigger-rally-($VER)-src.tar.bz2 for the next release? With that, any changes on the icon from your side would be automatically used. (It is sufficient to just add the svg, as in Debian we try to build everything from source, so we would regenerate the icon anyway at build time) Thanks and many thanks for the enjoyable game! -- tobi |

Hi Trigger Rally developers! Liviu and Ivan where quite active in late October 2014 and made our 0.6.1 release for the Debain freeze possible. But since months I have been adding new maps and events to Trigger Rally without any feedback at all. In the discussion board on Sourceforge nobody of the most recent team has been around for ages. Since nobody left a notice about leaving the project I am wondering if I really am the last one left. I think I do not even have the privileges to update the repository. Therefore even if I was able to master the technical necessities I wouldn't be able to do anything with the repository myself. Because of that I'm under the impression the project has died a very silent death leaving me as a zombie on the graveyard. I am willing to do my best to carry on, but under the given circumstances I might not be able to. I get that the game is a decade old and wasn't really developed any further since then, but I still own a computer where playing newer games wouldn't be possible since I lack a 3D-acceleration card. It's as well a shame since now there are 118 races already, which is much more than ever before. I made an overview of all the races in an html menu-mockup: http://trigger-rally.sourceforge.net/plugins/races.php My grasp of the technical reality concerning Trigger Rally's code is very limited, but I think it could be further developed and still be interesting for new people. What are your thoughts on how to proceed? Best Onsemeliot |

Hi Tobias, Stefan and the rest of the team, I'm so happy Trigger Rally will be in the next Debain release. You gave me a huge motivation boost. I just wanted to point out we have added a neat new game Icon under "data/icos": A little red racing car. It's available in various sizes as png and as an svg file with layers for the different sizes. I'm not sure if it is implemented yet since I only work with a source compiled version so far which doesn't use the install routine in order to being able to add new maps. (I'm not much of a technician.) My colleague seems to think the icon doesn't load. Please see the last post in this thread for reference: http://sourceforge.net/p/trigger-rally/discussion/527953/thread/43310392/?limit=25#a588 Could someone of you check if the icon actually gets used? (btw. would a switch to git for the packageing seem reasonable? Unfortunately, I don't have experience with git-maintained packages myself, so I'd be happy for some support on that matter). Oh, and on a side note: The reason I'm busy is that I'm building a house, so I fear that I won't have too much time for the next half year :(. Cheers, and once again thanks for all of your work! Hi again, Liviu thankfully finished the new upsteam version 0.6.1 in the SVN of the Trigger Rally Sourceforge page: https://sourceforge.net/projects/trigger-rally/files/trigger-rally/trigger-0.6.1/ Unfortunately we didn't find anyone able and willing to help us with packaging this new version for Debian Jessie in time (today). Normally Stefan Potyra would be so kind to do that, but he already told us he is buzy on something else. Liviu thinks this shouldn't be much work for an experienced packager and should take less than 15 minutes since there was no real code change, but new textures and maps. Please help us out if you can! It would be a shame to wait an other 24 to 36 months to get our work from the last years available for Debian gamers. If you accept some kind of bribe for helping out, please let me know! ;) Cheers Onsemeliot |

Hi there, Liviu was quite buzy yesterday. I asked him to reply to this discussion here as soon as he thinks the SVN is in a fitting state for a new upstream version. There shouldn't be anything new to test since the came code is still the same. We just added maps and textures. And those are well tested already independently - at least on my Debain system. :) Please help us if anyone is reading this who could possibly do a Debain package in time! Today seems to be really the last day to do this since 25th of October is just 10 days from the final freeze date of 5th of November. And since 10 days are the minimum time a package needs to be in testing before the freeze a new version of Trigger Rally in Debian Jessie depends on meeting this deadline. Sorry for this last minute call, but I didn't know how close the freeze for Debian really was until Stefan mentioned it. I don't know if he can do this that fast. All the uptdates are available, but I have no idea what exactly needs to be done. It's a shame I had so many other urgent things to do in the past weeks. Basically there hasn't been much change. One or two minor fixes and a lot of new maps and events without any influence on the coding. Liviu, do you see any chance to still meet the deadline? Liviu Andronic wrote on the Trigger Rally SouceForge discussion board: > Unfortunately we're as far from a new release as we were about a year ago. The sticky point is r88: New car textures, including noise texture for .svg tire pattern. As it stands, there is no consensus in our small community on the name and texture changes (and I'm not the only one who is not quite happy with some of the changes). If some compromise were reached on this (e.g. choose better name replacements and provide a user-configurable option to revert to old names and textures), then I could fairly easily organize a new release and request for a version bump in Debian. https://sourceforge.net/p/trigger-rally/code/88/ Since I really would like to see the new Trigger Rally additions into common repositories I want to solve this disagreement fast. As far as I got it the main concern is the realism of the new names and textures (brand logos). I hope nobody insists on keeping explicitly protected brand names and logos if we can get something similar enough. Do I get that right? This can't be very hard to resolve since for sure qubodub doesn't insist on specific logos or names. In my view our disagreement should be easily solvable with some new name suggestions and some altered textures which might get closer to what some company brands actually look like. Liviu, is there something in particular you would want a close proximity to? I could easily do fake brand logos looking quite similar to real ones without getting close enough to any specific brand to cause actual legal problems. Do you have any suggestions for car names? * Mitsubishi Evo (Tex Evaluate Pi) * Seat Cordoba (Rotor Cordon TRI) * Ford Focus (Iron Fox Mark II) Please try to help me solving this little detail. It would be a shame to get completely stuck with this - especially because we are just so few people... Best Onsemeliot |

Just to clarify: I still think that I have upstream svn commit rights, and I'm happy to commit stuff there if there's consensus about the things to commit on this ML (and there's nobody else to do it). Of course I'm also happy to prepare a new Debian version if requested. However I'd really love to have a new upstream release instead of taking a svn snapshot. I cannot help with that though. Btw.: I have heard back from Liviu last but one week... so... ;) Cheers, Stefan. |
