Hi to all my users & developers ! TiLP (and all others TI related software) development has been stopped for = 6 months now=20 due to various reasons... But, I'm gonna to take over TiLP development soon= ... Given that I'm not a student any more, I will have less time... Thus, I wil= l focus me on things are important and I will delegate some work (if possible). Delegation may include: graphism, web site, documentation, translators, dev= elopers, packaging. This is the reason why I'm writing this mail; it's a kind of survey/poll. At first, I will stop every Win32 support. I will keep in mind Win32 extens= ions or gateways for others developpers but there will not be new code. For now, it's Linux/U*IX only ! Win32 porters/developers are welcome... Next, a simple poll: 1=B0) Which is your primary OS ? secondary ? ... 2=B0) Which calculator do you own ? 3=B0) Which link cable do you have ? 4=B0) Which is your desktop (Gnome, KDE, ...) ? 5=B0) Will you be interested in a better integration with the desktop ? 6=B0) Will you be interested in TiLP development, support, help, testing, .= .. ? If yes, please tell me which field. Please not that you must have a good av= ailability. 7=B0) What software would you like to get (emulator, editors, ...) ? At last, I would like to know some of your prefs, what you would like to do or see... All suggestions are welcome ! Please reply on the 2 mailing-lists. Hi all, To answer roms' questions: 1) I primarily use Gentoo Linux (2.6) kernel, although I now have an=20 Apple laptop running OS X. Maybe time to port to a new platform? :) 2) I have an 83+SE 3) I have a SilverLink cable, and a black serial cable (I tend to use=20 the black cable because the USB one always seems kind of flaky for me) 4) I use Gnome (and OS X, as I said above) 5) Better integration would always be welcome (seeing as TiLP is=20 already GTK-based, Gnome integration would be nice) 6) I would be available for development, although I do not have a lot=20 of experience with the TiLP code itself, or with low-level hardware=20 control stuff. 7) I think all I would really look for is a variable editor, and a=20 program editor. A nice, open-source emulator would be great, but it's=20 not a major need for me. Hope this helps! I can't assure good availability though. > At last, I would like to know some of your prefs, what you would like > to do or see... All suggestions are welcome ! One of the downsides of making a vfs is that your code isn't portable anymore. GNOME has it's own way, KDE, Windows, MacOS,... Of course most of the functionality of TiLP is in its libraries, but it's still going to be a lot of work if you want to support all these platforms. It sure won't hurt to start with a gnomevfs and see how it works out though. Maybe it would also be interesting to know how the 84+ and 89ti will be implemented in the os as they themself seem to be the usb device and not the cable. Personally I'd also like to keep the windows support. TiLP is about the only more or less complete link program. I do understand that windows support (and other platforms too in fact) is quite a headache at the moment with all those ifdefs. Maybe we could split up some files, reorganize them... Maybe it would also be interesting to use wxWindows instead of gtk+, so TiLP has the look and feel of the OS it is running on. That would be something for a next major release though. |

That would be something for a next major release though. I agree that wxwindows would be a good choice. Regards, Stephan |

After the difficulty of writing working code, it is understandable that developers don't want to undertake the difficulty of writing good documentation. I think it is difficult to do, but experience shows that users will stick with whatever they first learn (and they are so easily confused). I think the cables need better explanations, since many new users don't even know what they are. Thanks for a nice program. |

I'm dreaming of a QT GUI for TiLP, with nice KDE widgets... and also of a=20 "send-to-calc" menu in Konqueror, with automounting, etc. To finish with, i= t=20 would be nice to supply the package with a little init script launching tip= ar=20 module at boot time for example. > > Please reply on the 2 mailing-lists. > > > Regards, Romain. > --- > Romain Li=E9vin > Site web > Messagerie instantan=E9e (ICQ) 43585029 > "Linux, y'a moins bien mais c'est plus cher !" > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > The SF.Net email is sponsored by EclipseCon 2004 > Premiere Conference on Open Tools Development and Integration > See the breadth of Eclipse activity. Hi, 1°) Which is your primary OS ? secondary ? ... BeOS, Linux Mandrake 9.2 2°) Which calculator do you own ? Ti-85, Ti-92 3°) Which link cable do you have ? Home-made //, and home-made serial 4°) Which is your desktop (Gnome, KDE, ...) ? No Desktop, just Windowmaker. 5°) Will you be interested in a better integration with the desktop ? No. 6°) Will you be interested in TiLP development, support, help, testing, ... Still porting on BeOS. But for now, helping to redevelop BeOS. 7) Emulators would be nice suggestions are welcome ! I think that integrating TiLP into a desktop would kill the strength of TiLP. The application would not be portable anymore. LibTicables and LibTicalcs is TiLP. The rest is only a GUI thing. Besides, if you decide to integrate TiLP into the Gnome desktop, KDE users wil get frustrated and so on. Keeping TiLP structure as it is now, is according to me the best way for portability and reaching the maximum of users. Another point, on CD3 of Mandrake 9.2 (download edition), we can find a rpm package named tilp-xxx.i586.rpm.
