I believe there are two simple things that could make the tilp project light-years more useful. The first is Gnome-VFS integration. Tilp is a nice little app, but accessing the calculator just like any other device (digital camera/usb keydrive/pda/etc) is a much more robust, useful, and versatile solution. This shouldn't be that hard to do, and I've had half a mind to do it on several occasions. The second is to flush out the bugs with the silverlink cable. Right now, I can use it "pretty well" with the kernel driver. It always needs to be unplugged and replugged if you ever enter the var-link screen (on 89/92/v200). So it seems it needs to be reset or something. The libusb driver is horribly flaky. Nearly all new users will have SilverLinks, so we /need/ to support these 100%. Two other (not as important) things tilp needs are better (updated) developer documentation and enabling deleting variables. The dev docs are good where they are consistent with the api. However, much of the documenation is outdated and much new functionality seems to be totally undocumented. This is from personal experience of trying to use libti* over the last semester. Deleting variables will really enhance the usefulness of a gnome-vfs module. 1) I use Gentoo Linux. 2) I have a Voyage 200 3) I have a silverlink 4) I use Gnome 5) Yes.. desktop integration is a good thing (see abover blurb on gnome-vfs) 6) I am definitely interested in some development. Also maybe updating documentation. 7) Other software.... Rather than coming up with separate editors and such, I believe it would be good to go the route of better desktop integration (gnome-vfs). Allow program/text editing with any text editor. John __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free web site building tool. Try it! http://webhosting.yahoo.com/ps/sb/ |
