I don't know about OpenSuS= E,=20 but specifically, I believe you are missing the following file: /opt/kde3/lib/libartsmodules.la Am I correct in that you do not have this file installed? Now to the package: For all I can see on the web, this seems to be in packa= ge=20 kdemultimedia3-sound . Do you have that installed? If not, does installing= =20 this package help? Regards Thomas |

Hi Piotr, On Sunday 24 June 2007, Piotr Szymaniak wrote: > If You like, I can paste some logs, put it somewhere or just send them. it should be sufficient to post the two or three dozen lines of the output= =20 of "make". Hi. I love to see that this project is still alive. This game reminds me a classic UGH! I don't know if I can help... and I have problems compiling new version. Well... don't know when exactly, but I saw Taxipilot for the first time about 2 years ago. Then had few distro changes and this project looked like dead. Never tried to compile it again, to this day. I use fluxbox and have few KDE libs (like kdelibs itself ;), it configures (--without-arts) fine, but, when make, it still looks for arts. I've installed arts, but no luck with it either. If You like, I can paste some logs, put it somewhere or just send them. And about the "help" stuff, if I would compile the game I can try to force myself to do some work (like graphic or levels, I have no idea about programming). Unfortunately it does not even indicate what exactly it was trying to do when it crashes, so I'm rather lost. Sorry, right now I don't have a single idea, how to approach this problem. Should I ever have a sudden insight on this, I'll post another comment. Should you find out, it works / still doesn't work after an upgrade of aRts, please let me know. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Thomas Friedrichsmeier (tfry) Date: 2005-09-01 14:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=300591 Yes, that is to be expected. The "Error reading sound file" is actually misleading in this context. Taxipilot checks whether the sound-server is running alright on startup, but it does not expect the sound-server to crash sometime in between. Rather whenever trying to create a new "Playobject" in the sound-server, taxipilot finds out that something went wrong. That's why you will get an "Error reading sound file" for every single sound, though the problem is simply the soundserver has crashed. I must admit, regarding this bug, I'm even a little more helpless than about the crash you reported. Programming aRts has always - at least partially - remained a mystery to me. Ok, one hopeful guess: Earlier you reported no obvious problems during compile/link-stage. Just to be extra sure, could you cd to EXT_wavpo, and do a make clean; make there? Also, could you start artsd manually in a console, maybe with a higher debug-level, e.g.: artsd -l 1 or even artsd -l 0 Maybe aRts gives some helpful information, before it dies. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: jda (jaddin) Date: 2005-08-31 20:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1323063 Here's some debug output from the program itself. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Thomas Friedrichsmeier (tfry) Date: 2005-09-01 07:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=300591 Yes, that is to be expected. Thanks! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: jda (jaddin) Date: 2005-08-31 13:16 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1323063 Here's some debug output from the program itself. Now I only wish I understood exactly why this changes anything. Probably, it's best not to think about it, though... I'm currently using aRts 1.4.1, and it works fine. I've definitely had other versions of aRts cooperating, too, but I can't remember which exact version I've had installed. For now, to keep things tidy, I'll close this bug report, and open a new one about the soundserver crash. Thanks for your assistance! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: jda (jaddin) Date: 2005-08-30 00:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1323063 Good news! Whatever you changed resolved the crash! aRts still goes south if the sound is on, but at least it's playable now. Thanks for your assistance! Btw, what version of aRts have you run successfully with Taxipilot? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Thomas Friedrichsmeier (tfry) Date: 2005-08-29 19:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=300591 Thanks for all your answers! Ok, so now I know, where exactly the crash occurs (actually it's already visible in the backtrace, but I just couldn't believe it really showed the problem). It's in lines 178-219 of taxipilotapp.cpp. More specifically in line 181. Now the problem is, this code is perfectly valid. I've searched google and various bug databases but could not find any pointers. So I'm not really attaching high hopes to this attempt: Could you replace lines 178-219 of taxipilotapp.cpp with this slightly modified version? bool TaxipilotApp::eventFilter(QObject *, QEvent *event) { if (event->type() == QEvent::AccelOverride) { KKey key (static_cast<QKeyEvent*> (event)); if (SUp.contains (key)) { tp->current_key_ud = -1; } else if (SDown.contains (key)) { tp->current_key_ud = 1; } else if (SLeft.contains (key)) { tp->current_key_lr = -1; } else if (SRight.contains (key)) { tp->current_key_lr = 1; } else { return false; } return true; } else if (event->type() == QEvent::KeyRelease) { KKey key(static_cast<QKeyEvent*> (event)); if (SUp.contains (key)) { if (tp->current_key_ud == -1) { tp->current_key_ud = 0; } } else if (SDown.contains (key)) { if (tp->current_key_ud == 1) {; tp->current_key_ud = 0; } } else if (SLeft.contains (key)) { if (tp->current_key_lr == -1) { tp->current_key_lr = 0; } } else if (SRight.contains (key)) { if (tp->current_key_lr == 1) { tp->current_key_lr = 0; } } else { return false; } return true; } return false; } In theory it should not really affect the crash (unfortunately), but at least it's slightly better code. And who knows, maybe the previous version triggered some obscure compiler bug that this version does not... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: jda (jaddin) Date: 2005-08-26 07:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=1323063 1) Right you are. Apparently it is crashing no matter what key is pressed. I tried 'F', 'L', ans several other random keys. They all have the same result. 2) I attempted to start the game with Game>New. The game did start! Then I pressed the arrow key and it crashed. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Thomas Friedrichsmeier (tfry) Date: 2005-08-25 22:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=300591 Ok, this is still mysterious. Your answers to 1) and 4) seem to indicate, that this has little to do with actually starting the game. Maybe it's really more about handling the space-key. In order to confirm/disconfirm this suspicion, could you try out the following things, and tell me what happens (if anything): 1) Press some other key instead of space. In particular, please try the 'F'-key (that keypress should trigger some of the same lines of code). 2) Instead of pressing space, start the game via Game->New. For the time being, I believe the crash in aRTs is probably a separate issue. I'll try to figure out the more severe one first. Category: None Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Submitted By: jda (jaddin) Assigned to: Thomas Friedrichsmeier (tfry) Summary: Compiles w/out error. Crashes @ start. Initial Comment: **Re-submitted with contact info** v0.9.1 Seemed to compile fine with no errors. After launch, aRts immdiately crashes when you advance to the game screen. The intro screen continues to run with all animation and text scroller functioning. When you press 'Space' to begin the game, Taxipilot crashes completely. Configuration : KDE 3.3.2 alsa 1.0.8 aRts 1.3.2 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Thomas Friedrichsmeier (tfry) Date: 2005-08-29 19:41 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=300591 Thanks for all your answers! Any chance this may have something to do with the transition to gcc 4? Any warnings during the linking stage? 4) Does the game crash regardless of which mission you chose? A few questions (blind guesses, but maybe they do shed some light): 1) Could you run "taxipilot --debug-level 3" and post the last 20 lines of output? 2) Since the crash does not seem to be directly related to sound: Does aRTs crash consistently on every launch of Taxipilot or only sometimes (on my system, lately, I see soundserver crashes every now and then for a variety of apps)? 3) Which version of gcc are you using? Any chance this may have something to do with the transition to gcc 4? Any warnings during the linking stage? 4) Does the game crash regardless of which mission you chose? As a first step in trying to resolve this problem, could you please verify, whether you have this package and file installed? If the file does exist, then my next guess is that the directory /opt/kde/lib/ is not in the library search path. I believe you should try running configure with: ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde/ and maybe you'll need: ./configure --prefix=/opt/kde/ --with-extra-libs=/opt/kde/lib/ Please let me know, whether or not this solves the problem. Thanks for your report! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=409706&aid=1176079&group_id=33948 |

Hi all, I've just finished upload version 0.9.1 of taxipilot. Some updated screenshots will follow shortly. The two most important changes in the new release are: - addition of save / load mechanism - three new levels by Stefan F. Raab in the CrashAndBurn mission (and he's also polished the existing levels to look even better) As usual, you can find a more complete list of changes in the ChangeLog on the download-page (http://taxipilot.sourceforge.net/download.php). On another note, the project is now accepting donations via the sourceforge donation system. While we don't really expect to be getting rich this way, feel free to spend your hard earned money using the "Support this project"-button on the taxipilot homepage. I hope you enjoy the new release, and please let us know your opinion about taxipilot on this list, in the forums, or in private mail. Thanks! Thomas Friedrichsmeier |

Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |
