Does it actually matter to figure out why the pipe got clogged in the first place?

Before, if I saw a clog, like water wasn't draining in the tub or the sinks, I'd just pour some crazy chemical stuff down there and hope it'd help. And it did solve the problem temporarily for the most part. Maybe I should've figured out why the clog even happened in the first place though.

I mean ideally you probably should check it. But honestly I've always done the same thing you did.

I used to use those drain clog products, always had a couple bottles at home just in case. They really only clean out the top part of the clog, but they don't actually fix the problem. And if the clog's bad enough that you have to call a plumber anyway, why not just ask them what caused it while you're at it, for future reference. Same thing happened when I decided to switch out my old water heater for a new one, I called a tech again for a repair, but I also went ahead to find out the cost of gas water heater installation in Medina and asked the tech straight up if a replacement was even needed at that point. Basically got everything figured out in one visit.
