 Take a look at the 1.3 documentation 
 (http://www.swig.org/Doc1.3/Contents.html).
 I believe what you need is under the section for
cpointer.i. Don't think 
 you need carray.i at all.

Thanks Renier, but Im afraid your suggestion does not
help much.  I have read the documentation, and perhaps
I am dense or I missed something, I was not able to
answer my own question.  So I wrote to the list.  Plus
the documentation is very long and Im not sure what
section you were intending to send me to.  

If you could provide a very short expample code of how
to access a C pointer from python, then I would be
very grateful.  JJ
