Hi!

A new feature proposal.

In each level, locks, switches.

Program is very good, I use a lot.
It's good to use levels, but it's a little tricky to use and handle when we use more levels.
If you have a level ready, it would be nice to lock it up so that you can not move by accident, walls, furniture, equipment, etc.
Each tab should have a lock button, locking only the same single tab.
Remain old lock, which is General Lock, still locks all levels, but does not bother individual locks.

It should be useful to put another function button on the level tab, Click on the icon, a click, then the tab will be visible / invisible. .
Better then useful and quick work when you do not have to often go through to another level by switching features on / off.

I made a graphic about this.

    Hi all!

I have used sweethome3d some years now, started with a single room interior, then rebuilt a whole flat, rebuilt a four level house and now I'm planning a whole new house - including e.g. electricity cabling - before it will be constructed in real.

I am fascinated how all these different applications are still possible with this free software. The only thing I am currently struggling (and even thought about moving to a commercial solution) is handling many many layers:

I have currently about 50 layers on 6 levels. You can imagine how the tabs do look like. They are currently in 5 lines on a FullHD screen - depending on the name lengths that I choose. Unlocked layers on the same level are also a challenge when editing the current layer.

So there are some improvements that would bring a big advantage for large projects. I ordered them by my personal priority:

    • locking of single layers (e.g. in the Edit Layer dialog)
    • list-view of the layers (e.g. in a sidebar similar to Adobe Photoshop or Gimp)
    • quick on/off-buttons on each layer for visibility/locking
    • hierarchical grouping of layers - either automatic by same-level property or manually

I would really appreciate if some work is going on this direction. I could also think about implementing stuff but it would be the first contribution to sweethome3d so some hints and instructions how to implement it in a sustainable way from an experienced contributor would be necessary.

    Thanks in advance!
    Majoran

    Hi all
I fully agree, excellent program, but the level management when you have 50 levels becomes crazy, I understand the difficulty in modifying as Majoran says, but at least preventing the reordering of the same at the click of the mouse would help not to get lost.
    Thanks
    Paolo
