You should be able to copy objects between two open files. I.E. if you add a wall on one file and you have a copy of the plan open and want to copy that wall to the other plan, right now you can't. That should be an easy fix.

It's already possible from the very first version. What version of Sweet Home 3D do you use? Under which system?
