After installing version 6.0, plan view shows all furniture as icon pictures from furniture list. Plan view used to show a plan view of the furniture item. Affects all previously generated design files.

Before installing the recent update, version 6.0, all of my furniture in the plan view were shown as plan view of the furniture. Since installing 6.0, my furniture items are displayed as the 3D picture of the item as would be displayed if you hover over a furniture item in a furniture list. This is affecting all of my existing design files so I assume it is related to version 6.0 update.

This has nothing to do with the update. You simply selected the Catalog icons option instead of the Top view option in the preferences pane.

Or maybe you run Sweet Home 3D on a system that isn't able to handle the Top view option, which requires the ability to compute offscreen images.
But as you give no details on your system, it's difficult to help you further...

This problem only occured after I updated to version 6.0 today. I have since reverted to version 5.7 snd the problem went away and all my design files were restored to normal meaning, I once again have plan views of the furniture items in the plan view. I actually uninstalled the 6.0 update and reinstalled with the same problem occuring. Only solution was to go back to version 5.7 which is OK with me but thought you should be aware of this problem with ver 6.0. Thanks.

Couxld you give some details about your system?
You even didn't tell if you use Windows, macOS or Linux

Sorry. Yes, of course. I run SweetHome3D on an Acer laptop with an Intel
Core2 processor rated at 1.4 GHz running Windows 7. Total RAM is 4 GB.
Not a blazing fast system but adequate for my needs and SweetHome3D
until ver 6.0. This is the system I have used to smoothly run
Sweethome3D for several years now without issue. Currently, I have
reverted to version 5.7 which runs without issue as I have previously
stated. The problem only appears when I load version 6.0 and nothing I
can do within 6.0 clears the problem. Switching back to ver 5.7
immediately clears the problem. Have you looked at my attachment which
clearly shows the issue I have?

Select the Catalog icons option in the preferences pane, you should get the same result.
As you know that you can revert to Sweet Home 3D 5.7 if needed, I would appreciate that you make this additional test with version 6.0:

    • Install Sweet Home 3D 6.0
    • copy SweetHome3D.l4j.l4j text file attached to this message in Sweet Home 3D installation folder (it tells Sweet Home 3D to use a 16 bit Z-Buffer rather than 24 bit default in version 6.0)
    • relaunch the program

Sorry Emmanuel. I have tried your suggestion but when I go to
preferences, Catalog icons, the selection is not available (greyed out).
Perhaps I have not placed the patch in the correct location?

It means that it's not a good suggestion.
Do you run the program in 32 or 64 bit (if possible)?

      Lou Volka - 2018-10-13

My Windows is 32 bit, unfortunately.

This is not a problem and there weren't so many changes that could explain this limitation...
Does the About dialog of Sweet Home 3D 6.0 shows Java 3D 1.6.1 or 1.5.2 version?

      Shows JAVA 1.8.0_162/32 bit/0.6 GB max, JAVA 3D 1.6.0

This information must be for Sweet Home 3D 5.7.
What about the information for Sweet Home 3D 6.0?

    • Lou Volka

      Lou Volka - 2018-10-13

Sorry. You are correct. I was running 5.7 when I responded.
In ver 6.0 it is JAVA 1.8.0_181/32bit/0.6 GB max, JAVA 3D is 1.6.1.

So the main change should be Java version. Please try this:

    • Install Sweet Home 3D 5.7
    • Copy the folder jre8 folder found in Sweet Home 3D installation folder somewhere
    • Install Sweet Home 3D 6.0
    • Replace the folder jre8 folder found in Sweet Home 3D installation folder by the copy you made previously
    • Relaunch the program
    • Check if you can choose the Catalog icons option in the preferences pane

OK. I have replaced the jre8 folder in ver 6.0 with the one I copied
from my ver 5.7. Relaunched SweetHome.
No change: still getting icon pictures in the plan view AND still cannot
select Furniture icons in Preferences. Sorry. I was hoping you were on
      to something.

In a way, I prefer it's my fault than Oracle fault. It will be easier to investigate.
I'm going to program some kind of patch that will reproduce version 5.7 behavior, and hope it will fix your issue.
Thanks for your patience and your tests :-)
