Hello,
I've never been able to work with SweetHome3D on Ubuntu 14.04 64 bits
(It worked well on Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits on the same computer - Graphic card AMD Radeon HD 6570 using the free (default) driver)

Both versions, either from the official repositories (Logithèque, version 4.3) and the downloaded version (4.6) produces erratic crashes. Crashes may occur while loading a saved file, however - more simple to test - crash does occur also when opening the 'preference' dialog.

CRASHES ARE UNPREDICTABLE.

I did several tests :

  • removing and adding 3D model furniture files
  • uninstalling everything (also erasing the ~/.eteks/ folder) and re-extracting the downloaded archive into ~/ (so there will be no permission issues)
  • deleted the preference.xml file
    but could not obtain a consistent behavior.

Thanks for investigating these issues (I saw other people have similar issues on other OS). This software is really great !

    Did you try with the installer version proposed on sweethome3d.com (www.sweethome3d.com) or with the one proposed in Ubuntu Apps Directory?

    I first installed from the Ubuntu "Logithèque" SweetHome3D 4.3
    It had crashes, so I completely uninstalled this version.

    Then I installed the 4.6 version from your web site.
    And it still has crashes.

    Hi I downloaded the 5.1 version from your web site.
    It still crashes when opening the "properties" dialog.

    I saw in your FAQ section something about this :
    "Sweet Home 3D crashes when I want to edit preferences, print, create a photo or create a video. What can I do?"

    I added the command param in the application file (see below, last line) : no changes. I have the crash every time.

    Also I don't know what to do with the
    SweetHome3D-NoOffscreen.jnlp file. If made executable and lauched from where SH3D is installed nothing happens.

    !/bin/sh

    Retrieve Sweet Home 3D directory

    PROGRAM=readlink "$0"
    if [ "$PROGRAM" = "" ]; then
    PROGRAM=$0
    fi
    PROGRAM_DIR=dirname "$PROGRAM"

    Run Sweet Home 3D

    exec "$PROGRAM_DIR"/jre1.6.0_45/bin/java -Xmx1024m -classpath "$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/SweetHome3D.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/Furniture.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/Textures.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/Help.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/iText-2.1.7.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/freehep-vectorgraphics-svg-2.1.1b.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/sunflow-0.07.3i.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/jmf.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/batik-svgpathparser-1.7.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/j3dcore.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/j3dutils.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib/vecmath.jar:"$PROGRAM_DIR"/jre1.6.0_45/lib/javaws.jar -Djava.library.path="$PROGRAM_DIR"/lib -Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.applicationId=SweetHome3D#Installer com.eteks.sweethome3d.SweetHome3D -Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d.checkOffScreenSupport=false -open "$1"

    Thank you for helping me.

    Please try version 5.3 that comes with a more recent version of Java and Java 3D.
